We all have feelings, and they are there to help us. Most of us do not know how to work with our feelings, and instead we push them down and suppress them for various reasons. This is quite common in the blended family.  It’s important that we learn to recognize and process our feelings and emotions so that they do not get trapped in the body.

  • My personal journey with feelings
  • Why feelings are important
  • How thoughts and feelings are connected
  • Why we ignore feelings and what that does to the body
  • My 4 step process that I made for you to help you RISE above those negative feelings
  • The emotional scale and how to climb it
  • Tips for self care
  • Tips for expressing feelings and emotions
  • Tips for loved ones

Reality, as Eileen Robertson Hamra perceived it, instantaneously altered the moment authorities confirmed that the plane her husband was piloting had crashed, and he had not survived. In the process of mourning her loss, with three young children in tow, where Eileen wandered and landed was nothing short of miraculous. Between the valleys of grief and the peaks of hope, she discovered that keeping promises to those that have left this world is a lifelong act, and honoring one love does not mean foregoing the freedom and joy that is found in reopening your heart, trusting in new love, and expanding your definition of family. Her book, Time to Fly, shares her story, her insights and more. In this interview we discuss

  • Her Story
  • Synchronicities and signs from the universe
  • How to cope with all of the emotions after a loss
  • How to find gratitude after a loss
  • How to persevere in the face of a loss
  • How to help your children through the loss of a parent
  • Finding love after loss
  • Her book

  • What Parental Alienation is
  • Why parents do this to their own children
  • The impact of stress on both parent and child
  • How Parental Alienation is still evolving
  • Why Mr Goldberg has chosen to focus his efforts here
  • Other important factors to look at with Parental Alienation
  • What can we do to combat Parental Alienation
  • How to find an expert to help you
  • And SO much more!

As a separated father of two young children, Michael found himself overwhelmed by the legal, financial and emotional costs of divorce on his family. After 20 years in the homebuilding industry, Michael hung up his hard hat to create a tool that would not just improve his family’s life, but would also help the other 55 million divorced co-parents in the US. Despite his success on the Apple tv show "Planet of the Apps" and partnering with Gwyneth Paltrow, Michael's guiding light remains the same: working everyday to be his best self for his kids.

He joins the show to share his amazing co parenting app called Fayr. In this interview we discuss

  • His personal story
  • How Gwyneth Paltrow came to be partnered with Fayr
  • What is Fayr, and what prompted the creation of it

With many children in today’s society are currently navigating through emotional challenges, learning and attention issues, or family stressors/pressures on the home front, we need to think more carefully about different ways to support children’s motivation and engagement, both in the classroom and at home. Joining us today on this episode of  The Blended Family Podcast to share how to assist your child in developing his/her sense of worthiness is Donna Sager Cowan, the creator of The Superhero School Series and the author of the forthcoming children’s book, With The Curiosity Of A Cat (book #2 in the series). As the youngest child in a large family, Donna felt lost in the crowd. She entertained herself by making up stories and friends to play with. By age 5, Donna had taught herself to read, and that began her imaginative journey to dreamy castles with princes and fairy godmothers.  Donna is a grandmother, random fact-finder, and encourager. And yes, she believes she’s a superhero. She resides in California with her family and four cats. In this interview you will hear:

  • Her personal story
  • Why going back to school can be very challenging for kids
  • What brought her to this line of work and why a superhero school series.
  • Why blended families can affect children and their self worth
  • The book, With the courage of a mouse.
  • What kids today struggle with, especially with school and social media
  • How do you know if your child feels worthy or not?
  • How can we help our children make sure they have a good view of self
  • How can you help a child who suffers from low identity, can you reverse this?
  • What's next for Donna-the future of the book series
  • And much more!

Military families know all too well the pain of separation for long periods of time. Other couples sometimes leave for family obligations or trips for their leisure. No matter the circumstance, it can be hard for the entire family. I share some tips to make the separation easier on everyone!

My guest Shannon Forster,  who has created a children's book called Love Grows and Grows, is helping so many families.  Her story shows that ALL types of families are special!!!!! The book now has a global audience and is  a "must have" book for all co-parenting and blended families after a divorce.

The book has characters styled as human-hybrid flowers; which themselves are a metaphor for growth and evolution towards love.  The story follows young siblings Flora and Leaf as they transition into a new and unfamiliar life between two homes- one with Mom, and one with Dad and his new wife.  Their journey highlights the challenges associated with creating extended families: a child's apprehension of meeting someone new, and eventually choosing to accept and embrace this person to become a part of their secular world.  With love and patience, we see a mom and a step-mom model a wonderful example of how to put their children first, working together to create a blended family with happy and confident kids. This example of unconditional love is what empowers Flora and Leaf to embrace a new definition of a typical family, and cultivate a new "normal" that benefits everyone involved.

Joining the podcast is Sherrie Campbell, the author of But It’s Your Family...Cutting Ties with Toxic Family Members and Loving Yourself in the Aftermath. Toxic family abuse is always two-fold. The first layer of abuse is the original poor treatment by toxic family members, and the second is someone’s denial of the ways in which abusers treat and harm them. Loving someone doesn’t always mean having a relationship with them, just like forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconciliation. A significant part of healing comes with accepting that there are some relationships that are so poisonous that they destroy one’s ability to be healthy and function best. But It’s Your Family is a remarkable account of what it means to cut ties to toxic family abuse and thrive in the aftermath.

Sherrie shares her personal story, and then we take a deep dive into the topic of what it’s like to have a toxic person in your life, and how to break free!

After enduring what has been called “the worst known case of parental alienation and the most corrupt family court case in the history of Tarrant County Texas” Wendy became motivated to break the silence about parental alienation.  In 2014, Wendy’s court case was featured in the critically acclaimed documentary Divorce Corp. She has not stopped fighting for the rights of alienated parents since. Wendy’s passions and strengths include giving educational presentations to the public and professionals, giving TV and radio interviews, giving support to targeted and alienated parents as well as conference and event planning.  Whether it’s experts or advocates or families, one of Wendy’s gifts is bringing people together for awareness, education and support.

She joins us for a second time to discuss her personal story, as well as what we can all do to help bring awareness to parental alienation.

"Parental Alienation can happen to ANYONE so it should matter to EVERYONE!"

The debt crisis is real and is affecting millions of Americans. Those of us in blended families often incur more debt, whether from expensive divorces, child support, or additional children to raise. Sadly, most Americans don’t even have $400 saved up for an emergency! It saddens me to see so many people hurting, which is why I choose to partner up with Debtmerica, a leading company in the debt relief space. Charles Hughes and Tony Gaeta join me on the show to discuss the debt problem, and how they help families get out from underneath it. In this show we talk about

  • Their own personal story of how they ended up in their current career
  • The debt crisis in our country
  • Children and credit
  • Different options for handling debt
  • The Debtmerica solution
  • Their tax relief program
  • And much more!

Josh is a corporate America escapee who, after 20 years successfully climbing the ladder as a design engineer and manager, realized that it was leaning on the wrong wall.  He first realized that his 401k he believed in so much wasn't going to retire him no matter what he did. After feeling misled about money, he started looking around and saw that he had spent years working really hard making his employer a lot of money yet had little to show for it.

He traversed through the gym industry, franchises, and other things before finding a home in WFG.  His passion to help others, the desire to get paid what he was worth, and build a business he could be proud of was fulfilled with this company.  He is now looking to build the Starbucks of financial services across the southeast. He truly believes that no family should be left behind when it comes to money.

In this interview, he joins us to talk about World Financial Group, and why we both are a part of it! We also discuss

  • What World Financial Group is, and how we are helping people
  • What types of services World Financial Group offers
  • How World Financial Group educates our clients
  • What sets World Financial Group apart from other financial services

I answer some listener questions today from our private facebook group!

First, a stepmom dealing with a high conflict bio mom who wants to tell her how to run her household. Then, a stepmom who loves her role, but is being made to feel like she is overstepping. And last, a bio mom who is interfering with a stepmoms plan for bedroom arrangements for her kids. Maybe some of you can relate with the challenges these stepmoms face!
